Bunkhouse Update

Well I finally got the ok to go ahead and get everything I needed to finish up the RV. Yay! My husband laughs when I say that because he said I will never have it finished. Which may be a completely true statement. lol Anyway, I have finished putting supports under the bunk since I decided to not turn it into a flip up bunk bed. As I mentioned before it’s now storage underneath. I ordered a ladder off Ebay for the second bunk along with a new rug for the room, new bedding, and some decorations. I decided to go with a southwestern feel with this room. Something for older boys since they have grown up so much in the last couple of years. When I originally did this room for some reason I went with yellow and grey? I have no idea why I picked that color scheme. Then I decided it had begun to look to feminine and frilly. So below here are some pictures of the evolution of this room.

Top picture is when it was factory stock.  (2014) – Sorry it’s kinda blurry.

Middle picture is what it looked like after I remodeled it the first time. (2015 – 2016)

What it looks like now. (2017)

Ok I’m sure you are noticing there is now a bunk back in the space above where the desk was. Well after the last time we had the boys, due to the constant arguing over space, we decided to rebuild the bunk bed so they each had their own space. This also was after we realized that we were unable to have children of our own so the space wouldn’t need to be arranged to accommodate a baby anymore. So now the space underneath is all storage area covered by curtains I made.

As far as the decorations I ordered some of them off Etsy and some off Amazon, of course. The little cactus night light, aztec rug and comforters came from Amazon. I ordered the comforter in a king size then cut it down to two pieces. They weren’t selling twin sizes when I went to order them. It was actually less expensive doing it this way. A little bit of a pain since turns out it was a duvet. So I had a little more sewing to do. And I found a king sized comforter at Goodwill I filled each of the twin duvets with. As for the wall art the big cactus print is from Hobby Lobby. I had ordered it originally for the main bathroom but it was much bigger than I expected when it arrived.  Last I checked it was out of stock probably due to the popularity of southwestern decor and cactus’ right now. I also added another set of crates to the top shelf. I decided this would be their dedicated book space. I just painted wooden letters I got from Michael’s craft store.

The decorative pillows were actually covers I found online. I already had 2 square pillows, 1 for each bed, I had gotten from Goodwill that matched the previous decor. I decided it was too expensive to get new ones so I found these for $9.99 each. I love them and they fit the style of the room perfectly! The blankets at the ends of the beds were some Michael and I picked up in AZ on our way from TN to CA. The wallpaper is peel and stick and I got it off THIS store on Etsy called Betapet.

As for these wooden triangles that are at the end of each bed I actually made those. I had some spare wood from another project. I cut it into pieces making the bottom part of the triangle wider so it was a little shelf. I just kept cutting and adjusting to make it into a triangle style. Then I glued them together with gorilla adhesive. After the glue dried I stained them. I decided they needed a little something on the shelf part so I took the mini fake succulents I had in the main bathroom and put two on each shelf. It was just the little touch it needed!

I found these wonderful decorations for the walls at local thrift shops! I especially loved the masks! I got them both for under $6. Score!!!

Then I made these for the head of their beds. I found the letters and wooden plaques at Michaels craft store. Glued the letters on, then hung the plaques with command strips. This way each bunk is a little more personalized.

Well there you have it! Finally done with this room! It took awhile to get all the details figured out but I think the boys are going to love it! What do you think of the changes?
