I know not everyone will agree with me on what items are must have’s for living in an RV, but here is my list of things that are important to me and I think make using an RV sized kitchen space much easier and enjoyable.
1) But Coffee First!
So the first two items in my RV kitchen are related to me and my husband waking up in the morning. My first and one of the best purchases ever made is our hand crank coffee bean grinder. I got it off of Etsy. My family had one growing up that was purely for decorative purposes but it was a great childhood memory of mine playing with it. I found this beauty after several days of searching across the website. It fits my decor in my kitchen just right and not only works but is pretty to look at.
2) Stove Top Coffee Percolator
The second favorite item I have is our coffee percolator I got off of Ebay. I got it because I love the way a percolator works, how the coffee smells when its cooking, the sound of it, and the design. It also matched the white from the grinder perfectly. This was my birthday present from Michael a couple of years ago.
3) OXO Good Grip Containers
When you live in an RV your always open to having pest infestations. One way to prevent this is to have a way to store your dry goods that they can’t get to. I got my containers from Ikea but you can also get them off Amazon. They come in all shapes and sizes. I keep my pasta, cereal, brown sugar in them. Pretty much use them for anything ants or any other creepy crawlies can get into.
4) Nuwave Oven
I quickly learned this past summer when living in temperatures over 110 degrees outside cooking using our propane was NOT going to be something doable. (yes I was miserable in the heat) So I had to come up with a solution to be able to cook without heating up the entire inside of the rig even more so than it already was. My neighbor has one of these and she recommended I buy one so I did. It has been a immensely helpful thing to have during those hot summer days when your not grilling outside. Here is the model I purchased on Amazon. I like this model because it has the extra rim that you can use to add height to it for larger items like whole chickens, etc.
Although I don’t have one yet I plan on getting one in the future. I have a regular crock pot right now but I really want one of these. Especially after all of the wonderful things I have heard and seen about them. They are pretty reasonably priced and available on Amazon. I have seen this on many others RV kitchen must have’s as well.
6) Ninja Master Prep – Chopper, Food Processor and Blender
I love this product first because I have a mini food chopper by Ninja. And my dad has a blender by them. What I really love is the fact they have more blades than other products like this. Instead of the blades being at the bottom of the device they are leveled 3 times (multiple blades) which allows for a much better, smoother blend in my opinion. I don’t have this particular product myself but I would love to get it one day. It’s a really good space saver with it being a 3 in 1 type product. As many of the items I have mentioned you can purchase this on Amazon for a really great deal! It’s actually an Amazon choice product!
7) Collapsible Colander
Another great space saver idea. Everyone needs a colander but they do take up space. This way you can have one you can tuck away and bring out when you need it. This one from Amazon is great cause it fits over the sink too!
8) A good set of cookware
A good set of cookware is essential when cooking in an RV. I know sometimes it can be a pain to find storage ideas for it but don’t skimp. You need quality! I got THIS set off Amazon and have been really happy with it. It was reasonably priced and I got mine with some of our tax return money since the other set I had purchased several years ago was flaking the ceramic coating off. Yuck!
9) Dish Draining System
The system I have setup is mostly from Ikea. I attached it to my wall. The dish drain rack folds up if I needed the extra space which I don’t. And I got the silverware drainer from Camping World, although THIS one from Ikea would work fine with this setup. I like it cause it keeps things off the counter for more space. This is the wall rack bar, the drain rack and the S hooks to hang my daily used large utensils are from Ikea.
10) Nordic Ware Dinnerware
I purchased this stuff called Nordic Ware online. It’s the dishes you see in the picture above as well. It’s a plastic that can be heated in the microwave. Although my only complaint is it will stain if you are using something like red pasta sauce although over time it comes out. But it holds up really well, is light weight and comes in a set with a dinner plate, salad plate and bowl.
