So funny thing. As I was writing a recent post I got caught up in the idea of re-doing my master bedroom (u-gin!) lol but this time in the farmhouse theme. I just got so excited about showing you all what possibilities were out there I wanted to do some decorating myself. Truth be told I was never 100% satisfied with the look of the master bedroom. I thought it was just the comforter that needed to be replaced but after thinking about it awhile last night, I just had too many owls. Like tacky too many! So around 8pm last night I started the making the needed changes to our bedroom to prepare for the new look!
Ok so first I will explain the TV. My husband likes to play video games in his time off. So he was playing when I took this photo. lol This picture is to show that all the owl items, minus the owl knobs have been taken down! I am mailing some of them to someone and donating the rest to Goodwill. I will remove the owl knobs once the new ones arrive. I also have a new vase for the flowers in the corner. I ordered some wood shelves from Hobby Lobby as well for new side-tables. Here is the idea board I made of the items I bought last night. (I wound up adding some items of course!) They are on their way and I can’t wait for them to get here! Shhh..It’s an early bday present to myself.
Below are the items I bought in case you love something so much you have to get one for yourself! I got most of my things from Hobby Lobby online or Target online. I bought the fabric I am using (linen fabric) for the curtains and bed skirt from Fabric.com Just click each photo to be redirected to the url. I wound up adding a few more items for the room after I came up with the idea board.
I am also giving the windows a face-lift too! I decided to spray paint the curtain rods oil rubbed bronze to go with my theme. Metallics are a popular choice, both dark and light, for farmhouse styles. Here are the before and after photos.
Here are the new cabinet knobs. I love these. I had thought about getting copper ones but decided to stick with these. They are perfect! Link in corresponding photo above.
Now for the final reveal!!! I have been waiting until everything had arrived and I had it all set up to show off the final look!
*Note the panels on the sides of the closet look different also. I wound up making some faux shiplap walls. I will explain how further down.
Everything you see here is listed above. Just click the corresponding photo to go to the website. The picture in the frame on the left I printed for free. Just search for Free Farmhouse Printables on Pinterest and you will find a ton of results. I also got the mini-salt rock lamp from TJ Maxx and the oil diffuser from Amazon. I love putting my lavender oil in there and turning on the salt rock lamp and just relaxing!
The wooden sign I got from Hobby Lobby a few years back. They don’t carry it anymore. The metal farmhouse animals I also got from Hobby Lobby but I linked those above in photos. The candle holder and wooden L decor I found at Ross and Marshall’s so I don’t have links for them.
The wreath I linked above in a picture from Hobby Lobby. And although they don’t seem to carry the Mr. and Mrs. wooden signs pictured any longer (at least not online) HERE is a replacement that would still look great with a farmhouse theme. HERE are the metal candle sconces you see pictured above.
I also wanted to show you what the transformation of the bedroom looks like. Here are all the looks I tried before getting it to something I was happy with. And yes I really did change my mind that many times! lmao! Some of these styles I’m not completely sure what look I was going for? Ugly apparently!
Ok so by now your probably very eager to see better pictures of the faux shiplap wall panels I did. All for under $75 too!
So basically what I did was go to Amazon online. I found THIS inexpensive vinyl plank flooring. It has free shipping too. It’s also very lightweight. I ordered 2 packs. It didn’t matter the color as long as it was lightweight and had a grain like texture to it. I knew I was gonna paint over it. These planks are so thin and it’s great because you can just use a sharp pair of scissors to cut them to the right length. I used the adhesive below to glue the planks onto the wall. I LOVE anything gorilla glue so when I saw this I knew I had to get it! It holds everything so well. So I highly recommend it! I laid out the design on the floor before hand of how I wanted it to look after it was installed. These planks are peel and stick but I wanted to make sure they were really secure. At first I went from the top down on the left panel and some fell off while I was trying to put up the other planks. This is due to the pull it creates from not having anything underneath to keep it in place while the glue dries. Thanks gravity! lol Kinda frustrating. So I recommend starting from the bottom and going upwards! This way the planks that you are putting above the previous ones have something to push up against. After the glue dried I put a coat of primer on them. And of course I used Glidden’s Gripper primer cause I just love that stuff! Then I just used the left over paint I had from when I first painted the room to paint right over the planks. After they were dry I used Miss Mustard Seeds Antiquing Wax to go over the seams to give it a antiqued finish. You can google it but I bought mine from Ebay. Seemed to be the least expensive on there.
Another Small Update: I have added some pillows. I wanted to share the links with you in case you loved them and wanted some too!
The first pair I actually got off Amazon. Shocking I know. I wanted a pair of dark blue pillows with some texture to them but couldn’t find any that I wasn’t paying $25 or more for just one cover, cause half the time it didn’t even include the pillow itself. Of course I searched Amazon again and found THESE pillow covers. And of course if you have Amazon prime with free two day shipping it’s even better! I just had the free 30 day trial. I recommend that if your planning on buying alot of stuff from the site and need it quickly. I also liked the fact these were just the cover since I already have two pillow inserts for them, and they come in pair for $12. What a deal!
The second pillow I got is from another website I have recently really fell in love with, Etsy. I’m a bit addicted I must admit! After searching for “farmhouse pillows” I found what I didn’t even know I wanted. I had been wanting to get a pair of ticking stripe pillows to go on either side of the middle light blue pillow I had gotten at Marshall’s. (This was before I found this pillow and the blue pillow covers above) Again couldn’t find them at a decent price. Well I stumbled upon this shop and found out this gal could make me one a bit smaller than her listing. I already had the main decorative pillow in the center of the bed but I found THIS and had to have it. So I decided to make it smaller and put it in front of the light blue decorative pillow. AND it has the ticking stripe pattern in cream and navy blue which is the color I was going to get for the side pillows originally. Her shop is called TakeFlyteFarm.
I recently added a rug to the room (as of March 2017) We decided to wait another year before replacing all of the flooring so I wanted something that would cover the crappy looking carpet in the meantime. I couldn’t stand looking and walking on it anymore. I found THIS rug on Amazon of course, cut it to fit around the bed and wa-la! A pretty floor that is also nice and soft too! Please ignore the scruffy looking white dog lol I had just given him a bath and he is going in for a groom on April 1.
So what do you think? Love the makeover? Want to change your RV interior look to resemble a farmhouse style? Let me know in the comments section below. I’d love to hear your thoughts!
