STAGE COACH CURTAINS/VALANCES TUTORIAL
So I thought I would write up a tutorial on how to make your own DIY Stage Coach Curtains along with my own personalized fabric covered accordion shades. First below is a photo of the valances that came with the RV when it arrived and then what my stage coach curtains looked like after I put them up.
As far as the tutorial I haven’t made a video myself yet but I came across this terrific one on Youtube. And honestly she’s made a much better video than I could have. She made them so they actually can be used! I didn’t cut as much fabric as she did because my valances are just that, they are valances, for show, not to be functional. I also made the strips that hold the valance material up really short and hot glued them together since I wasn’t going to be putting them up and down like she does in the video.
FABRIC COVERED SHADES TUTORIAL
I started by cutting a piece of my fabric to a size just larger thank the entire window. This is so when you fold it in you have extra to fold instead of being too short a piece.
I glued it up to the top plastic piece to hold it in place (as pictured below)
Then as you can see I folded it in on the sides of the plastic holder. I folded it on the left side down the whole way and glued it on the part of the shade that stuck outwards as I went.
I then went across the shades. Line by line I put hot glue along the edge of the shade that stuck outwards. I lightly pressed the fabric against the shade making sure to keep it flat. I did this with each part of the shade that faced forward, from top to bottom, all the way down until I got to the part of the shade that was crimped up at the bottom. I lifted the crimped part up and finished adding the fabric in the same fashion as I had been then I just folded the bottom and attached to the bottom plastic piece. (see pictures below for example) Then what I did above on the side of the shade I did along the right side.
This is where I lifted the shades up and put the remaining fabric attaching it to the bottom plastic piece.
This way when the shade was folded at the bottom regularly it looked good.
Here is a before and after photo to show how great it turned out. And also the shades are still functional!
